The Treatment Plant Operator performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, process control, maintenance, and repair of the water treatment facilities, wells, and reservoirs. Assists in water distribution activities as required.
As an integral leader in the Financial Department, the Comptroller manages and oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which encompasses payroll, accounts payable, procurement, and grant management. The Comptroller is responsible for financial risk management and compliance, financial reporting, and analysis, and processing the municipal budget.
Works as part of a team of alternative safety providers that respond to nonviolent community calls with an emphasis on approaching community members through an anti-racist and behavioral health lens. Teams respond to nonviolent criminal activity such as mental health issues, homelessness, substance abuse, truancy, and wellness checks. Teams also provide community outreach services to local businesses, schools, parks, and organizations, and attend local events. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching various levels of swimming to children and adults, and for the supervision of the participants in their designated learning groups. Responsible for enforcing pool rules and regulations to ensure the safety and supervision of all swimmers, participants, equipment, and the overall facility. Heavily involved with the general public, and will assist in many facets of overall pool operation.
Performs a variety of skilled tasks and operates a variety of equipment associated with tree care and landscaping. This position is considered essential and must report to work in inclement weather and other situations where usual Town operations are disrupted.
The Planning and Economic Development Director serves as the Town’s principal professional planner and takes the lead on economic development initiatives. The Director oversees the administration of the land use planning and permitting, leading the development of both short- and long range planning projects and analyses. The Director will prepare and implement economic development plans, programs, and services, and works to identify, attract, and establish new business entities in the Town for the purposes of tax base growth, job creation and preservation, and blight prevention.
Responsible for the daily operations of the Town of Amherst Senior Center/Council on Aging (COA) office. Administers and oversees social, educational, recreational, and wellness services and programs to meet the psychological and social-health needs of our diverse and ever-changing senior population.
The Amherst, Massachusetts Police Department is accepting applications to fill the position of Police Officer. Successful applicants must be 21 years of age on the day of or before accepting the position and must have successfully completed either:
1. Sixty (60) college credits with a 2.0 G.P.A. from an accredited college or university, OR
2. Two (2) years of full-time, active military service in the United States Armed Forces with an honorable discharge and possess a high school diploma/GED OR
3. A full time (22 week) Massachusetts Municipal Police Academy Certification or the ability to obtain a waiver for an out of state police certification from the Massachusetts Police Training Committee, before being considered.
*Amherst Police Officers must reside within 15 miles of the geographic limits of the Town of Amherst within 1 year of appointment.
